Alyssa brings nearly two decades of high-growth startup experience leading and consulting finance functions at dozens of successful businesses. Most notably, Alyssa spent eight years as Clari’s CFO, where she led finance, accounting, legal and IT functions on Clari’s journey from pre-revenue to a $2.6B valuation.

Having her join Tropic’s leadership team is a major milestone in our journey. Building the next-generation procurement platform has exposed us to some of the most forward-thinking finance teams in the world—but this also meant we were very particular about our ICFOP (Ideal Chief Financial Officer Profile).

Modern CFOs now flex a ton of different muscles to drive innovation and action across the organization, extending far beyond traditional finance activities.

  • They are long-term strategists and short-term pragmatists.
  • They are cross-functional coaches and cheerleaders.
  • They are risk mitigators and risk seekers.
  • They are motivational and inspirational.
  • They are agents of change.

At Tropic, we’re transparent about building a championship culture and being an intense company in the pursuit of bringing our vision of Procurement Paradise to life. We searched for months to find THE modern CFO that perfectly aligned with our culture and vision.

Alyssa was introduced to Tropic through Insight Partners, one of our investors where she was consulting.

“I hit it off with the Tropic founders immediately,” says Alyssa. “We were completely aligned on core values, and it was really important for me to join a company where I feel a strong connection to the product. Having worked hands-on with several platforms in my career, I can confidently say Tropic’s team and product are best-of-breed.”

As many SaaS businesses shift their focus from the top to the bottom line, it is only natural for Alyssa’s next home to be a SaaS business focused on a function near and dear to her heart—procurement.

Her interest in procurement stems from years of personally steering purchasing decisions without the proper tools for the job.

“Procurement is simply ripe for disruption. It hasn’t kept up. Finance and procurement professionals everywhere are desperate for next-generation tools that meet their needs. The market demands what Tropic has built, and as a lifetime finance leader, the company’s bold ambitions for the future are hard not to buy into.”

Alyssa perfectly balances big-picture strategic thinking with dollar-and-cents business fundamentals—without breaking a sweat. I knew she was the best person for the job within ten minutes of speaking with her, and we’re all so excited to work with her and learn from her.

The value she brings extends well beyond the finance function. She is a true operator and the perfect finance leader to carry us into the future, where we aim to transform not just procurement, but B2B SaaS in general.

Given Tropic’s focus, Alyssa plans to engage deeply with the platform as well, influencing product direction and meeting with customers to help Tropic maintain laser focus on its core users, an audience that now includes Alyssa herself.

“I’ve worked with venture-backed companies my entire career, and Tropic is exactly the size and stage that I get excited about. I wanted to be part of this critical growth phase for Tropic, and I can’t wait until the market sees where we’re heading from here.”

Welcome aboard Alyssa! 🌴
